Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Mekele → Afdera → Erta Ale Volcano
- Morning departure from Mekele in a 4x4 convoy
- Drive through the Danakil Desert and Afar villages
- Lunch en route at a desert stop
- Continue toward Dodom, base camp at the foot of Erta Ale
- Briefing and gear check for night hike
- Begin sunset/night trek (approx. 30 minutes ) to the volcano rim
- Reach the summit and view the active lava lake (conditions permitting)
- Take photos and observe volcanic activity (glow, bubbling lava)
- Sleep near the rim in a basic shelter or under the stars
Day 2: Erta Ale → Mekele
- Early morning sunrise over the crater (optional walk to the rim again)
- Light breakfast at the summit
- Descend back to the Basecamp (approx. 30 minutes )
- Drive back to Mekele with stops for rest and lunch
- Arrive in Mekele late afternoon – transfer to hotel or airport
